Disciples on the Way
Those who share the life of the Christian
Church are disciples. By definition, they are “learners”,
following Jesus Christ. The Gospels give us pictures of Jesus
with his friends, as he taught them, and they followed. The
Church is always a community of learners.
Learning the faith involves thought, experience
and practice. It is more than a matter of intellect, although
it does mean loving God with all our mind. It is more than
receiving certain experiences, although it does take experience
of life seriously. It is more than obedience to direction.
It means learning how to walk, with others.
At Bloomsbury, we try to take the life of
discipleship seriously. That is why both worship and social
actions are important for us, following Jesus. We also offer
every year a number of opportunities for learning and practising
the faith together. We do this by holding conferences, offering
short courses, lecture events and home groups.
The purpose behind all these is not
simply to stimulate the mind but to enable us in our discipleship,
our active following of Jesus Christ.
