Event: launch of a new Housing Justice
publication
"Helping the homeless,
are we killing with kindness?
Community, church and government responses to rough sleepers"
Thursday 26 March 6.00pm - 8.30pm
This new Housing Justice pamphlet has the aim of bringing
to a wider audience the discussions held here at Bloomsbury
in the Autumn of 2008. Each discussion was preceded by a talk
from people involved in action on homelessness: Father Martin
McAnany, Chair of Westminster Churches Together Homelessness
Task Force; Howard Sinclair, Director of Broadway; Tom Preest,
Head of Street Services at LB Camden; Alastair Murray, Regions
Coordinator of Housing Justice; and Michael Blight, a resident
on the streets.
The discussions were organised by the church to prompt a wider
debate about the tougher enforcement strategies being adopted
in 2008 by the City of London, known as Operation
Poncho.
Copies of the pamphlet will be available in advance from the
Housing Justice website or on the night.
There will be a brief presentation from the pamphlet, followed
by responses from the invited panel, and opportunity for further
discussion.
The invited panel will be chaired by
Alison Gelder of Housing Justice and includes:
Revd Dr Simon Perry, Bloomsbury Central Baptist Church
Michelle Binfield, Special Homelessness Adviser to Communities
and Local Government,
Joan Smith, London Metropolitan University,
Christopher Scanlon, Group Psychotherapist
Alan Murdie, Barrister with Zacchaeus 2000
Jeremy Swain of Thames Reach
All welcome
